Friday 20 August: Nova Scotia Visit

I decided my stingy Dutch heart would not survive the shock of over 100 dollars for a few hours sleep, so I sat up at the Tim Hortons at Halifax Airport, slurping coffee and surfing the internet with my little Asus travel laptop through their free wifi connection. Since this Tim Hortons -the only place open 247- was a shrine to high carb foods, I stuck to coffee till the other eating places opened their doors early in the morning, when I had me some scrambled eggs etc for breakfast. And, some more coffee! The coffee at TH was pretty damn awful but the servers were kind and friendly and hey, it was warm and contained caffeine. I was not unhappy.

I had booked an Aciadian bus ticket online to Amherst, and managed to find the bus stop without a problem. The bus was late but at last, after endless hours of waiting, I was on my way. Eventually the bus turned into a large parking area, and on the one side I saw a car with a familiar looking woman standing next to it. Liz. Instant familiarity, I felt not one moment of strangeness when we greeted each other. She decanted my dizzy self into her car and off we went, by her beautiful home, and a few quick stops before heading off to the holiday home on the Northumberland Strait, and the incomparable Widgie. So that's what we did, with my jet-lagged self wafting along like a dopey wet blanket.

Liz drove me about a bit showing the area and later in the day, I drove out with her to meet up with John and Barbara, who followed us in and camped out at the bottom of the garden, overlooking the water.
